Wildfire Risk Reduction Treatments to Protect Community of ?Esdilagh

Project Number: #WR0000137

The goal of this project is to reduce wildfire risk on portion of a large landscape-level primary fuel break south of Quesnel in the traditional territory of ?Esdilagh (also known as the Alexandria Band). The traditional territory of ?Esdilagh First Nation is situated along both sides of the Fraser River between Williams Lake and Quesnel BC and the community has a population of 204. Post harvest mechanical and manual fuel treatments will create a fuel break that can significantly alter fire behaviour and intensity and reduce the risk of a wildfire spreading to other resource values. Residual waste fibre resulting from the treatments will be removed and sold to pellet producers and other industrial users of biomass.
