Procter Wildfire Risk Reduction Treatment

Project Number: #WR0000536

The Regional District of Central Kootenay (RDCK) Area 'E' Community Wildfire Protection Plan and the RDCK Collaborative Planning Group both identified the West Procter Face, one kilometre south of the Village of Procter, as a top priority for wildfire fuel reduction. This project will reduce wildfire risks by significantly reducing fuel loading in a critical interface area. Surface and ladder fuels will be removed and the overstory will be thinned. Project activities include mechanized logging and thinning, log hauling, and post-treatment cleanup to remove surface and ladder fuels with the goal of recovering and utilizing as much of the removed fibre as possible in order to achieve climate change objectives. The project will rehabilitate a low-value stand and encourage the growth of a more open and diverse forest stand.
