The 2017 wildfires resulted in the need for intensive salvage harvesting in areas around the City of Williams Lake and Williams Lake First Nation (WLFN) communities. The salvage created significant volumes of residual fibre which would normally be left on site and burned. WLFN expressed an interest in recovering this fibre but the
transportation of the fibre on it's own was uneconomical. FESBC funding assisted in transporting the fibre for recovery, resulting in reduced greenhouse gas emissions by avoiding burning and improved fibre utilization. Ongoing operations will support the recovery of residual fibre resulting from wildfire risk reduction projects and will generate fibre for both Atlantic Power and Pinnacle Renewable Energy operations in Williams Lake.
