Mercer Celgar is actively working to facilitate and increase fibre utilization, recovering material that would otherwise be burned on site. Increased recovery results in less burning which avoids the immediate release of carbon into the atmosphere associated with the burning of wood wastes. Utilization can minimize the overall residual fibre on site by factors of 10 to 90%. This project involves working with forest tenure holders to increase fibre utilization and support the transportation of residual fibre for use at the Mercer Celgar pulp mill as well as
improving harvesting practices, resulting in increased fibre availability into the future.
