This project enables low-grade biomass fibre (low value logs, branches and bark) that would otherwise be burned in the forest to be utilized through grinding the fibre and transporting it to the Domtar pulp mill in Kamloops. The biomass is then combusted at a high temperature to create green electricity. Most of the electricity will be used
by Domtar and any surplus is sold to BC Hydro. This project results in reduced greenhouse gas emissions by avoiding the burning of slash piles and through the production of green electricity from woody biomass which potentially displaces electricity that otherwise might have been made from fossil fuels.
