The FESBC Board of Directors had the opportunity to visit two wildfire risk reduction project sites with Ntityix Resources funded by FESBC. The work has been thoughtful and done in collaboration with local residents and community members to ensure important infrastructure, homes, and wildlife habitat are better protected.
“It was great to be hosted by the Ntityix team – Mic Werstuik (CEO), Dave Gill (General Manager of Forestry) and Jag Barmi (CFO) – to see the work they have done. Walking the land, hearing how these projects are led by Indigenous values and worked in the face of wildfire was inspiring,” said Jason Fisher, RPF, Executive Director, FESBC.
Ken Day, who recently stepped into the role of Chair of the FESBC Board of Directors, is proud of the work done under the leadership of Dave Peterson, and looks forward to the work ahead.
“It has been my great pleasure to work on the Board with our outgoing president, Dave Peterson. Dave has been on the Board of Directors since FESBC was created in 2016, and we are pleased to have his continued contribution as a Director of the Society,” said Day. “We are proud of our accomplishments over the past nine years, acting on the purposes of the society while advancing the government’s aims for making communities safer from wildfire, limiting greenhouse gas emissions and reducing open burning of harvesting waste in the forest industry. As we look forward, it is clear that we have an opportunity to increase our collaborations with new funders, other government agencies and proponents to grow our positive impact on B.C.’s forests.”
The Board of Directors also welcomed a new member – Jamie Jeffreys, Registered Professional Forester and current Assistant Deputy Minister (ADM) for the South Area with the Ministry of Forests.
“On behalf of the Board members and the staff of FESBC, I’d like to welcome Jamie Jeffreys to the Board of Directors. Jamie brings us her wealth of experience in silviculture and wildfire as ADM of the South Area in the Ministry of Forests, and we know her contributions to the work of the society will be substantial!” added Day.
