Forest Enhancement Society of BC Supporting Nazko First Nations in Reducing Wildfire Threat

The Forest Enhancement Society of British Columbia is pleased to announce the Society’s decision to approve funding of $376,000 towards a project developed by the Nazko First Nations through their Economic Development Corporation to undertake wildfire risk reduction treatments adjacent to the communities of Nazko and Fishpot Lake.

These treatments are part of the Quesnel Natural Resource District’s wildfire prevention planning process and will commence shortly. Reforestation of the treated areas will be planned and implemented through the Provincial Forests for Tomorrow program.

Nazko Logging Limited Partnership will complete the treatments through the winter and employ approximately 101 direct employees, First Nations and contractors over the next several months, contributing an estimated $ 3 million in direct economic activity and an incremental 45,000m3 of competitively sold wood fibre to the local economy in the Quesnel Timber Supply area.
